Introduction

The Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT), under the direction of the Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, has taken the initiative to launch a project to implement the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme in the areas of English, Science, Youth Leadership, and Mathematics; to train un-skilled un-employed qualified Intermediate, Graduate and Post Graduate Youth in English Language Proficiency, Mathematics and Science subjects and to address the issues of poverty and unemployment through human resource development in the province of Sindh. The project has been designed in a manner that will provide training to nearly 6,000 educated and unemployed youth within the entire province of Sindh, especially those from under privileged areas.
It is hoped that the youth who are trained, will not only improve the quality of human resources in Pakistan but also enhance the earning capacity of the unemployed within the province by pursuing teaching as well as other related careers in the public and private sector. The long term goals of the project are:

  • Provide educated and unemployed youth with skills to meet the demand of the local and international market which will also improve the quality of human resources in Pakistan.

  • Build the professional and logistical capacity of the maximum training institutes of Government of Sindh and create centres of excellence within the province.

  • Create availability of quality training materials that will also be available for future use during trainings.

  • Develop transparent monitoring and evaluation procedures to ensure quality training by professionals.
