The Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers regularly conducts a 2 hour academic session on the last Saturday of every month at Karachi, Abbotabad, Islamabad, Lahore and Sukkur. These sessions are presented by English language teachers from all over Pakistan. Participation in these sessions is open for all teachers, at no cost. You are most welcome to join us for the next academic session.

Study Skills are the skills that build confidence, develop efficiency and enable students to be proactive, make good decisions and develop critical thinking. In short these are skills which make students independent learners.

“Teaching Methodologies” was the topic of the Academic Session, conducted by Ms. Merzieh Shah on the 30th of July, 2011.
There are many types of teaching methods depending on what information or skill teacher is trying to convey. The facilitator will use Task Based Learning techniques (TBL) which cater to multiple learning styles to help students retain information and strengthen understanding.

CLIL has attracted great interest and recognition of teachers and teacher educators in recent years all over the world. CLIL is an approach in which learners learn language through the content of Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics.

“Digital storytelling” was the topic of the Academic Session, conducted by M. Saleem Ibrahim on the 28th of May, 2011.
Through this session, the presenter will share how storytelling can be used as an online collaborative project to enhance students’ language proficiency and engage them in meaningful language learning activities.

This session aims at exploring ways to make the writing process not only more effective but more enjoyable. By engaging students in activities that are creative, we can help guide them in bringing words to life.

“Reading development through phonics” was the topic of the Academic Session, conducted by Muhammad Farid Hanfi on the 26th of March, 2011.
This session aims at enabling the participants to practice the phonetic method of teaching English. Concepts such as letters – sound relationship, digraphs and diphthongs will be explained.

The workshop aims at introducing participants to a variety of visual aids imaginatively and creatively in order to develop student’s language skills.
